“We should not forget that it will be just as important to our descendants to be prosperous in their time as it is to us to be prosperous in our time.”―Theodore Roosevelt.
Monthly CLT Events
Colchester Land Trust traditionally conducted regular outings on the first Sunday of each month at 1:00pm. Due to the recent pandemic and other factors of our changing times, such outings have become less frequent, less regular... but more interesting!
Assuming that social protocols allow, CLT is hoping to have foraging, stargazing, farm tours, and a Fall barn dance in 2022. Watch for details as they emerge.
The coronavirus has been trying and tedious, but progress and hope endure. Spring and summer remain the wonderful times of the year that they have always been, even when our human efforts to fill the time with entertainment and diversions were stifled. On our individual levels, there is still life to live, still sunshine and raindrops, flowers, peepers, starlight and sunrises. Do yourself a favor and go outside to enjoy life. Take a walk. Feel the breeze. Smell the air. Savor it all!
CLT: Accommodating the restraints of Covid-19.
The protocols required of the pandemic made getting together in groups difficult or impossible, at least in any fun way. things seem to be opening up! Rest assured, we are looking ahead to 2022 and hope to return to some kind of normal. When it is appropriate, we will continue opportunities to explore beautiful Colchester, get involved in land conservation, and have a good time!
Our schedule of activities has been affected, but CLT is still active through this time of social distancing!
Two student board members have joined CLT, bringing us fresh ideas and energy
We have expanded our presence on social media.
The much-anticipated BHP parking lot is open to the public, with an information kiosk!
A second bog bridge at BHP was completed, as well as a short but sweet third bridge.
We look forward to future developments with high hopes.
We owe much to our membership and benefactors for helping to make this possible. Thank You!
If you enjoy the outdoors and appreciate our efforts, get involved. The Colchester Land Trust is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization protecting open space in Colchester. Protecting land takes time and requires funding. Every little bit helps; we welcome any contribution of time, money or expertise. Use the "Contact"or "Donate" buttons to make a difference. Thank you; we appreciate your help.
Annual Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run
The Colchester Land Trust traditionally conducted an earth-friendly road race each May on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Covid forced us to October, which has proven a very popular time! The 'hybrid' race features a variety of terrain, gorgeous scenery, and a post race feast that cannot be beat! For more information, please visit the race page at: www.salmonriverrun.org or contact race director, Cathy Shea at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our fingers are crossed that Connecticut will be delightfully normal by the fall and that we will once again be able to enjoy the camaraderie of an in-person event complete with its awards ceremony and renowned post-race BBQ.
The Colchester Land Trust regularly meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at the Colchester Town Hall. Due to building problems, we are currently meeting via Zoom. Our meetings are open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Due to the current pandemic, most CLT meetings are being conducted by Zoom. Please get in touch if you would like to attend. The Colchester Land Trust annually devotes one of its meetings to a social gathering of all friends, members, and interested citizens. Typically taking place in the month of June, the annual friends and members meeting is a wonderful venue for getting to know the officers, board members, general membership, partners and others involved with your local Land Trust. It is a great way to learn what we've been up to, to celebrate our accomplishments over the year and to learn more about current projects.
