“We should not forget that it will be just as important to our descendants to be prosperous in their time as it is to us to be prosperous in our time.”―Theodore Roosevelt.
Monthly CLT Events
Colchester Land Trust typically conducts its outings on the first Sunday of each month at 1:00pm, although that is not carved in stone. Far from it! Like everyone else, CLT and our membership are adapting to the new realities. Despite this, LIFE GOES ON.
Although it seems like all organizations are shuttered, most are not. Like the Land Trust, other organizations and their volunteers are doing the best they can to maintain and prepare for the day when society opens up again.
Although you and your family may seem to be imprisoned by the coronavirus, you are not! Spring and summer remain the wonderful times of the year that they have always been, even if our human efforts to fill the time with entertainment and diversions may be stifled. On our individual levels, there is still life to live, still sunshine and raindrops, flowers, peepers, starlight and sunrises. Do yourself a favor and go outside to enjoy life. Take a walk. Feel the breeze. Smell the air! Think about it.
CLT: Accommodating the restraints of Covid-19.
Your land trust typically conducts several hikes and events each year, but! real-world events require adjustments. The protocols required of the pandemic preclude getting together in groups, at least in any fun way. Sure, we would often be outdoors, but the spontaneous and intimate aspects of our hikes and events would be lost. Rest assured, we are looking ahead to 2021 and hope to return to some kind of normal. When it is appropriate, we will continue opportunities to explore beautiful Colchester, get involved in land conservation, and have a good time!
Our schedule of activities has been affected, but CLT is still active through this time of social distancing!
Your land trust's 200-Acre Campaign has paid off the loans that allowed the purchase of a large property (Bulkeley Hill Preserve) and acquisition of a significant easement (Tangletree Farm).
Two student board members have joined CLT, bringing us fresh ideas and energy
We have expanded our presence on social media.
CLT achieved re-accreditation from the national Land Trust Alliance
The much anticipated BHP parking lot has come to fruition and is open to the public!
A second bog bridge at BHP is nearing completion.
We owe much to our membership and benefactors for helping to make this possible. Thank You!
If you enjoy the outdoors and appreciate our efforts, get involved. The Colchester Land Trust is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization protecting open space in Colchester. Protecting land takes time and requires funding. Every little bit helps; we welcome any contribution of time, money or expertise. Use the "Contact"or "Donate" buttons to make a difference. Thank you; we appreciate your help.
Annual Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run
The Colchester Land Trust traditionally conducts an earth-friendly road race each May on the Saturday before Mother's Day. The 'hybrid' race features a variety of terrain, gorgeous scenery, and a post race feast that cannot be beat! For more information, please visit the race page at: or contact race director, Cathy Shea at .
Our popular Salmon River Run is currently planned for Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 ... instead of the usual May running.
Our fingers are crossed that Connecticut will be fully opened by this fall and that we will once again be able to enjoy the camaraderie of an in-person event complete with its awards ceremony and renowned post-race BBQ.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, July 13th - 7:00PM, location TBD
The Colchester Land Trust regularly meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at the Colchester Town Hall. Our meetings are open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Due to the current pandemic, most CLT meetings are being conducted by Zoom. Please get in touch if you would like to attend. The Colchester Land Trust annually devotes one of its meetings to a social gathering of all friends, members, and interested citizens. Typically taking place in the month of June, the annual friends and members meeting is a wonderful venue for getting to know the officers, board members, general membership, partners and others involved with your local Land Trust. It is a great way to learn what we've been up to, to celebrate our accomplishments over the year and to learn more about current projects.
