Not Going...GROWING!!

We are sharing exciting news about the future of Colchester Land Trust!

For more than 25 years you, our members, have been the heart of this organization. You have walked our trails, attended our events, supported our work, and trusted us to protect the land and open spaces that make Colchester home. That trust means everything to us – and it is exactly why we are writing today.

Colchester Land Trust is entering into an alliance with Avalonia Land Conservancy.

In doing this, we gain:

professional staffing
shared stewardship expertise
greater capacity to pursue larger conservation projects
funding resources of a larger, well-established and resilient organization.

We have included our full Letter to Members, other merger documents, and events for you below.

Over the past couple of years, our all-volunteer board recognized that the legal, financial, and stewardship demands of land conservation have grown beyond what a small volunteer org can reliably sustain. This ensures our work continues long-term.

We are stronger together!

Every one of our 785 protected acres remains protected in perpetuity. Conservation easements are legally binding — they do not change with organizational structure.

As we transition, we will become the Colchester Chapter of Avalonia.

Our Board continues to stay engaged, and all our community programming, Farmer’s Market, hikes, road race, Owl Prowls, continues. You’ll still see your neighbors out there!

Your support still matters and has made a real difference. Details on membership structure going forward will be shared as the alignment is finalized and we’ll keep you informed.

In the meantime, we will have a public information session for any questions or clarification you might want to ask in person. would appreciate your support at the Member Vote at our annual meeting.
